In a move reflecting the current economic landscape, the British Council Nigeria has announced a second upward adjustment in the prices of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exams for the year 2024.
This decision, disclosed through an update on the Council’s website on Thursday, attributes the price hike to what it terms “prevailing market dynamics.” The Council cited evolving market conditions and increased costs in exam delivery as key factors behind the adjustment.
Effective from March 1, the new prices for various IELTS tests are as follows: applicants opting for IELTS computer academic and general training modules will now pay N266,000, while those choosing paper academic and general training modules are required to pay N256,500. UK visas and immigration (UKVI) applicants will see a fee increase to N285,500, and the IELTS life skills exam will now cost N249,000.
The price adjustment comes amidst ongoing concerns regarding the exchange rates of the Nigerian Naira against foreign currencies, reflecting the challenges faced by organizations in maintaining cost-effective operations in the current economic climate.
As individuals and institutions navigate these changes, the British Council’s decision underscores the impact of market dynamics on exam pricing and highlights the need for stakeholders to adapt to evolving economic conditions.
