Tottenham Sack Ange Postecoglou Despite Europa League Triumph.
In a shocking turn of events, Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Ange Postecoglou, despite the Australian ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought with a Europa League victory. The dismissal comes just 16 days after Postecoglou guided Spurs to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao, securing the club’s first European silverware in 41 years and a spot in next season’s Champions League.
However, the North London club’s joy was overshadowed by a disastrous Premier League campaign, with Tottenham finishing a dismal 17th. The season saw Spurs suffer 22 defeats, amassing a record-low 38 points—the worst in the club’s Premier League history. This poor domestic performance has ultimately cost Postecoglou his job, two years into his four-year contract.
Postecoglou, who joined Tottenham from Celtic on 6 June 2023, famously declared in September that he “always wins things in his second season.” While he delivered on that promise with European glory, it was not enough to secure his position at the club.
Sky Sports News understands that Brentford boss Thomas Frank is the leading contender to succeed Postecoglou. Frank, who has impressed with the Bees, reportedly has a release clause in his contract, although negotiations with Brentford are yet to commence.
The sacking has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike. Have Tottenham made the right call in parting ways with the man who brought silverware back to the club? Spurs supporters, have your say!
