The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have declared an indefinite strike set to commence on June 3, 2024.
This decision follows the Federal Government’s refusal to increase its N60,000 offer during the recent tripartite committee meeting held in Abuja.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference by NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo. Osifo expressed disappointment over the government’s lack of commitment, stating, “At our last meeting on Tuesday, the government proposed N60,000. They invited us for further discussions today (Friday), and we had hoped for a more serious engagement.”
He continued, “To our surprise, there was no significant representation from either the Federal Government or the state governors, who are integral to the negotiations. It feels as though they have abandoned the process, remaining firm on the N60,000 offer without any increase, which we had already rejected.”
More updates will follow as the situation develops.
