Manu Garba Appointed Head Coach of Nigeria’s U17 Golden Eaglets
The Nigeria Football Federation’s Board has announced the appointment of Manu Garba as the Head Coach of the Nigeria U17 boys, known as the Golden Eaglets.
This appointment marks Garba’s return to a familiar role, having previously led the Golden Eaglets to victory in the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2013, held in the United Arab Emirates.
Under Garba’s guidance, the Golden Eaglets clinched Nigeria’s fourth U17 World Cup triumph, showcasing the talent of players like Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success, Musa Mohammed, Chidiebere Nwakali, and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu.
Reflecting on their journey to victory in 2013, the Golden Eaglets displayed remarkable prowess throughout the tournament. Despite finishing as runners-up at the African U17 Championship in Morocco, they embarked on a formidable campaign at the World Cup.
Notable victories included a resounding 6-1 win against Mexico in the opening match, a thrilling 3-3 draw with Sweden, and a dominant 5-0 victory over Iraq.
The team continued their impressive run with victories over Iran, Uruguay, and Sweden in the knockout stages, culminating in a convincing triumph over Mexico in the final.
Garba, a former Nigerian international player, will immediately assume his role as Head Coach and oversee preparations for the upcoming WAFU B U17 Championship in Ghana next month.
His wealth of experience and proven track record with the Golden Eaglets position him well to lead the team to further success on the international stage.
