The Kano State Government has mandated the demolition of the palace of Aminu Ado-Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, to facilitate its renovation.
Haruna Dederi, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, announced that this move aims to allow for extensive reconstruction and refurbishment of the palace. He also revealed that the Commissioner of Police has been instructed to relocate Bayero from his current residence at the Nasarawa GRA mini palace.
In a press conference, Dederi confirmed that the government has finalized plans for the comprehensive reconstruction and renovation of the property, which includes the immediate demolition and rebuilding of the deteriorating wall fence.
This decision follows a Federal High Court ruling that upheld the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 but invalidated all subsequent actions taken by Governor Abba Yusuf after the law’s enactment.
