Users of the widely-used social media platforms Facebook and Twitter expressed frustration following an unexpected shutdown of services on Tuesday.
Numerous reports surfaced indicating that users across multiple Instagram and Facebook accounts were unable to access their profiles. Attempts to log into Facebook accounts were met with difficulties, while Instagram users found their account profiles and homepages unrefreshable.
The disruption prompted a wave of complaints from users on various social media platforms, with many expressing confusion and annoyance at the sudden outage.
One Twitter user, identified as Peace Ighodaro (@peace_igho), tweeted, “Who logged us out of Facebook ooo”, echoing the sentiments of many bewildered users.
Nigerian sports photojournalist @PoojaMedia lamented the inconvenience caused by the shutdown, remarking, “Sessions of all Facebook accounts expired & everyone logged out. You have to log in again. Good luck if you still remember your passwords. 😭”
Lidia Curanaj (@LidiaNews), a New York-based user, succinctly summarised the situation with her tweet “Facebook and Instagram down,” while a social media influencer from the Philippines, @RealRazziebinx, humorously speculated, “Is it just me or Facebook logged me out? I guess the world is ending.. see you guys.”
Another user, @RaphealMiguel, shared a lighthearted image expressing relief upon discovering that the issue was not a result of hacking.
“Me after checking on Twitter that Meta is just down and I’m not hacked since my Instagram isn’t loading and my Facebook got ‘session logged out’. 😂,” the caption read.
@Avviexo expressed frustration with the situation, tweeting, “Anyone else’s #Facebook logged out? Can’t log back in, keeps saying session expired or unexpected error?”
Popular X user @bod_republic joined the chorus of confusion, questioning, “Facebook and Instagram down?”
Despite the widespread disruption, neither Facebook nor Instagram, both owned by Mark Zuckerberg, had issued a statement addressing the issue at the time of reporting.
