BREAKING: APC Chieftain Jesutega Onokpasa Passes Away

BREAKING: APC Chieftain Jesutega Onokpasa Passes Away.

Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and respected lawyer, has reportedly passed away. The news of his demise, which occurred on Monday, 9 June 2025, has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political and legal circles.

Onokpasa, widely recognised for his incisive political commentary and staunch support for the APC, was a key figure in the party’s publicity efforts. He served as a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general election, where he frequently appeared on national television to defend and promote the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. His passionate debates, including a notable on-air exchange with Arise Television presenter Rufai Oseni in October 2023, cemented his reputation as a fierce advocate.

The announcement of his passing was first shared on Tuesday by Okezie J. Atañi, a pro-APC social media influencer, via his X account. “We lost Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa, may his soul rest in perfect peace,” Atañi wrote, a sentiment echoed across social media by other APC supporters and political commentators. A tribute from the Renewed Hope United Kingdom Facebook page described his death as “a profound loss to the Nigerian political and legal landscape,” highlighting his dedication to shaping discourse and advancing the APC’s agenda.

However, in recent months, Onokpasa had publicly expressed disillusionment with the Tinubu administration, citing worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and a perceived neglect of loyal party members. In a May 2025 interview, he declared, “Tinubu has failed woefully in ruling Nigeria and may end up as a one-term president,” marking a stark shift from his earlier support.

The circumstances surrounding Onokpasa’s death remain undisclosed as of Tuesday, with some sources suggesting he had been battling an ailment for years. Tributes have poured in, with political commentator Akin Olaoye noting, “I enjoyed watching your spats on TV with Rufai and Reuben Abati. Praying for his friends & family.”

Onokpasa leaves behind a wife, children, and a legacy of robust political engagement. His passing has sparked reflection on his contributions to Nigeria’s political sphere, with many mourning the loss of a vocal and influential figure.
