Boko Haram Attack Claims Lives In Resettled Borno Community As Senator Renews Call For Armed Community Defence

Boko Haram Attack Claims Lives In Resettled Borno Community As Senator Renews Call For Armed Community Defence.

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Yamtake, a recently resettled community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, on Thursday night, killing two soldiers and an undisclosed number of civilians.

The assault, which occurred around 11:15pm, targeted a local military formation before reinforcements could arrive from nearby Gwoza town. A military source confirmed that by the time help came, significant damage had already been done.

Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. “It is very sad that two soldiers paid the supreme price, while an unspecified number of innocent civilians were among the casualties,” he stated.

Yamtake is one of the communities where Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were recently resettled as part of the Borno State Government’s post-insurgency rehabilitation efforts.

Despite the tragic outcome, Senator Ndume praised the swift response of Brigadier General Nasir Abdullahi and his troops, who successfully repelled a further attempt by the insurgents to infiltrate Gwoza town.

In response to the growing threat, the senator renewed his call for the Federal Government to provide the military with improved **Technology, Equipment, Arms, Ammunition, and Motivation (TEAAM)**. He also advocated for the establishment of an **Armed Community Defence system** to reinforce the efforts of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes.

“Let me, therefore, use this opportunity to advocate for the setting up of Armed Community Defence to complement the efforts of the military,” Ndume said. “This is because men of the CJTF, hunters, and vigilantes have been doing their best, but they have limitations, as they only carry dane guns and sticks, which make it very difficult to confront the terrorists.”

This incident adds to a string of deadly attacks in Borno State in recent weeks. On 12 April, eight passengers were killed in a landmine explosion along the Damboa–Maiduguri Highway.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have reassured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and securing vulnerable communities across the region.
