Simon Ekpa, a prominent Biafra independence activist, has reportedly returned all medals he won for Nigeria back to the Federal Government.
The self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile made this announcement via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday.
According to Ekpa, the medals were sent from Finland, where he currently resides, to Nigeria through a logistics company last Friday. They were delivered to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Monday, July 15.
The returned accolades include a Silver Medal from the 2003 African Junior Championships and Gold and Silver Medals from ExxonMobil track and field events. Ekpa stated that he has retained other medals unrelated to Nigeria.
This action follows Ekpa’s earlier renunciation of his Nigerian citizenship in 2022. In his statement, he emphasized that this move was intended to “further denounce Nigeria” and sever all ties with the country “both in sports, spiritually and physically.”
The activist, known for his vocal support of Biafran independence, addressed his message to Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar.
