Bala Mohammed Reflects On 2027 Presidential Ambitions, Prioritises PDP Cohesion.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has addressed his potential run for the presidency in 2027, clarifying that while he hasn’t yet made a decision, his commitment to strengthening the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) remains his main priority. Speaking in an interview published on Saturday, the PDP Governors Forum Chairman outlined his focus on fostering unity and readiness within the party to secure a credible candidate for the next presidential election.
Reflecting on his past candidacy in the 2023 presidential primaries, Mohammed noted that his previous aspirations may have led to assumptions about his intentions for 2027. However, he emphasised that his current focus is on collective success within the PDP, rather than personal ambition. “Right now, my priority is to see the PDP strong and cohesive,” he stated, underscoring that the party’s future presidential nominee could be anyone capable of earning the public’s trust and carrying a unifying national vision.
Mohammed revealed that he has faced pressure from supporters encouraging him to run. While he has yet to respond to these calls, he remains open to considering a candidacy should the time come, saying, “If the time comes and I decide to run, no one will stop me.” He also highlighted his commitment to consensus-driven leadership, emphasising the importance of humility and cooperation in the political process.
Governor Mohammed further stated that he would only consider a run if influential figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan are not in contention. For now, however, his primary goal is to work towards the party’s collective success and prepare the PDP for a strong showing in 2027.
This stance has drawn attention within political circles, with many seeing Mohammed’s focus on PDP unity as a positive step for the party’s future amid ongoing calls for greater cohesion in opposition politics.
