Residents of Igbode and Osun-Egbado in Mowo, Badagry, are seeking urgent intervention from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as they face the imminent threat of demolitions in their communities.
Allegations have surfaced regarding the intrusion of land grabbers armed with cutlasses and deadly weapons, demanding the evacuation of residents and marking buildings for demolition.
Imam Abdul-Kabir Tijani, a customary landowner, recounted the peaceful coexistence shattered by the invasion on March 4. He revealed that land grabbers, backed by security personnel, descended upon the communities, instilling fear and chaos. Tijani further disclosed the intimidating tactics employed, including padlocking houses and demanding exorbitant sums from landlords under the guise of court orders.
The situation escalated when Mowo Model Junior School was marked for demolition, disrupting academic activities and jeopardizing the safety of students and staff. Alhaji Jinadu Adeshina, a concerned landlord, emphasized the urgency of the matter, highlighting the closure of the school and the distress caused to the community.
In response to the impending threat, residents petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Chief Judge, seeking urgent assistance.
