The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the suspension of nine workers who were allegedly involved in fraudulent ticket dealings. The suspension was as a result of allegation that some staff members of the NRC engaged in dishonest act – collecting cash from passengers unlawfully. A video emerged in the past week showing the yet-to-be-identified staff collecting money from passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service. The staff had allowed the passengers to board the train without obtaining tickets, only to ask them for money mid-trip. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the demolition of popular Bombata and Jankara Markets in Lagos Island as part of the on-going efforts to regenerate Lagos Island and deflooding project of the area. Sanwo-Olu gave the directive on Sunday, while addressing the media during an inspection tour which started from Idumagbo Avenue through Ojo-Giwa, Jankara, Oroyinyin, Bombata, Pelewura and Ilubinrin of the state. Governor Hyacinth Alia has ordered all criminals currently operating in Benue State to leave or risk arrest. This is contained in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Sir Tersoo Kula, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi on Saturday. Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun has instituted a scholarship scheme for 550 indigent students of the Remo Federal Constituency of the state. He instituted the scheme in memory of his son, Gbemiga Abiodun, aka DJ Olu, who died six years ago. Speaking at the launch on Saturday at Iperu in Ikenne Local Government Area, Abiodun said the scheme would ensure that brilliant, but indigent students had access to quality education.
