Kano state government has lifted the dawn to dusk curfew imposed in the state with a view to avoid breakdown of law and order following tensions generated from the announcement of the results of the governorship and state Assembly elections. The state commissioner for information and internal affairs, Muhammad Garba, made the announcement lifting the curfew in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Similanayi Fubara has been declared winner of the Rivers State governorship election. Announcing the result in Port Harcourt on Monday night, the Returning Officer said Fubara secured 302,614 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Pastor Tonye Cole, came second with 95,274 votes. Fubara is the anointed candidate of the incumbent Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the governor-elect of Zamfara State. Lawal was announced as the winner in Gusau, the state capital, in the early hours of Tuesday. According to INEC, he polled a total of 377,726 votes to defeat Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 311,976. THE National Population Commission, NPC, yesterday, disclosed that it will deploy 17,000 personnel for the conduct of the 2023 census in Osun State.  It also said it has started meeting with communities, where border issues are on-going, to ensure a crisis-free exercise. GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, yesterday, approved the implementation of the 20 per cent increase in the salaries of civil servants in the state.  The workers include those in the mainstream public service, Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas, as well as the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB. Senator Uba Sani, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate has been declared the winner of the governorship election in Kaduna State. INEC’s Returning Officer for Kaduna State, Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis made the announcement on Monday night. He said Sani polled 730,002 votes to defeat his closest rival, Isa Ashiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 719,196 votes. The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Jonathan Asake polled 58,283 votes while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate, Suleiman Hunkuyi scored 21,405 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has suspended further collation of governorship election results in some parts of Abia and Enugu states. INEC National Commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye disclosed this in a statement issued Monday in Abuja. According to him the Commission met earlier on Monday and reviewed the conduct of the Governorship and State Assembly elections held nationwide on Saturday 18th March 2023. The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the Plateau State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Caleb Mutfwang, as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election. The result declared by the INEC Presiding Officer, Musa Yusuf, after counting the votes scored by parties that participated in the election shows that Mutfwang had the highest votes beating the All Progressives Candidate, Nentawe Yilwatda. Recall that the PDP governorship candidate was reported to be taking an early lead as of 11 am when INEC resumed collations of results from the 17 local government areas of the state.

Supporters of the two leading political parties in Enugu State have stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, headquarters, in Enugu, as tension heightens over the collation of the governorship election results. The Labour Party supporters were the first to storm the commission’s office demanding that the result of the Nkanu East Local Government Area must not be accepted over alleged non-usage of BVAS. LP maintains that its candidate, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga won the election.
