The National Universities Commission revealed on Friday that Nigeria now has 264 universities. The number includes universities owned by federal and state governments as well as private individuals and corporations. The Executive Secretary, NUC, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, revealed this while presenting provisional licences to some newly established private universities in Abuja. The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the posting of Kenechukwu Onwuemelie to Abia State Police Command as the new Commissioner of Police of the state. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect, the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Willie Bassey said in a Friday statement. This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy. Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) caused a stir at the Anambra State House of Assembly Complex, Awka, as they attempted to arrest a lawmaker-elect on Thursday. The DSS operatives were said to have invaded the Assembly Complex and tried to whisk away the lawmaker-elect for Nnewi North State Constituency, Onyekachukwu Ike. A civil society group, Justice and Equity Forum, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to allow interested individuals to interfere in the ongoing investigation of former Ekiti Governor, Kayode Fayemi by the anti-graft Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged money laundering. No fewer than 20 school officials, allegedly aiding and abetting examination malpractice, have been arrested by the West African Examination Council in its ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination for school candidates. The Council said that the arrests were made in various parts of the country. Oil marketers are currently converting some of their trucks to start supplying gas to filling stations in order to dispense Compressed Natural Gas to vehicles that run on gas. It was gathered on Thursday that about 800 tankers that formerly transported petrol to filling stations, were being converted by marketers to start moving gas to retail outlets. The marketers told our correspondent that they were now collocating CNG dispensing pumps in selected filling stations that dispensed Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol.
