Arteta Hopes Hat-Trick Will Spark Gabriel Jesus’ Premier League Revival.
Mikel Arteta is optimistic that Gabriel Jesus’ impressive Carabao Cup hat-trick will reignite the striker’s Premier League goalscoring form.
The Brazilian forward scored three second-half goals against Crystal Palace, helping Arsenal overturn a deficit to secure a spot in the semi-finals. The treble marked Jesus’ first goals at Emirates Stadium in over a year and only his second scoring appearance this season. His other goal came in the EFL Cup against Preston in October.
Despite his brilliance in the Carabao Cup, Jesus has not found the net in the Premier League since 30 January. Arteta is hopeful that the hat-trick will serve as a turning point for the striker as Arsenal continue their quest for the league title.
“It’s now about consistency,” Arteta remarked. “It’s a moment of spark that will bring so much to the team, showing we can rely on him to change games. We need to give him more chances.”
Jesus, speaking after the match, acknowledged the importance of maintaining his form and highlighted his determination to deliver for the team.
“I wear the number nine for Arsenal, so I have to be scoring goals,” Jesus told BBC Radio 5 Live. “Kai [Havertz] as well—we are the strikers and have the pressure to score.
“If you want to challenge for a place, we have to keep scoring. It’s not easy—if it was, there would be many strikers in the world—but we keep trying. I came here to win the Premier League. In my first two seasons, we were close but missed out due to small details. This third season, I want to win.”
As Arsenal push for silverware, Arteta’s belief in Jesus’ abilities remains steadfast, with hopes that the striker’s resurgence will bolster the Gunners’ title aspirations.
