Jamie Redknapp lauds Arsenal’s mentality over Tottenham’s, says club need to change their approach.
Former footballer and pundit Jamie Redknapp has commended Arsenal’s remarkable transformation, highlighting their strong club mentality and ambition to contend for the Premier League title.
Reflecting on Arsenal’s recent performances, Redknapp reminisced about their past struggles, particularly a defeat to Tottenham Hotspur two years ago. He noted that back then, it would have been hard to imagine Arsenal competing for the title.
“What Arsenal have done as a club is they’ve backed the manager,” Redknapp stated, emphasizing the club’s support for their leadership. He praised Arsenal’s strategic approach in acquiring players who are not just improvements but additions capable of winning titles.
Redknapp pointed out Arsenal’s pursuit of key players like Declan Rice, illustrating their ambition to make significant upgrades to the squad. He highlighted Arsenal’s efforts in the transfer market, citing their unsuccessful attempt to sign a player for £100 million and their subsequent acquisition of Leandro Trossard.
“They tried to buy Mudryk for £100m. They didn’t get him, they ended up getting Trossard but challenging to get players to take them to the next level,” Redknapp remarked, indicating Arsenal’s determination to secure top talent.
Redknapp contrasted Arsenal’s mentality with that of Tottenham, noting Arsenal’s focus on building a competitive team to match their impressive infrastructure, including the Emirates Stadium.
“That is the mentality of Arsenal that Tottenham haven’t got. They’ve got the most beautiful stadium but the team has to match that,” Redknapp concluded, underlining the importance of aligning on-field success with off-field investments for sustained progress.
Arsenal’s resurgence and pursuit of top talent signal a shift in their approach, reflecting a determined effort to challenge for major honors and solidify their position among England’s elite clubs.
