Arne Slot has confirmed that English side Liverpool are in talks with his current club side Feyenoord on payment package to ensure he joins the premier league side in the summer.
Arne Slot has expressed his desire to succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool’s manager at the end of the season, as talks between Liverpool and Feyenoord regarding his potential appointment have begun.
Slot, currently managing Feyenoord, confirmed his interest in the Liverpool job to ESPN ahead of Feyenoord’s 3-1 victory against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday.
“I would like to work there,” Slot stated, referring to Liverpool, while acknowledging ongoing negotiations between the clubs. He expressed confidence that an agreement could be reached.
The 45-year-old led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in the 2022-23 season and also secured the Dutch Cup this season. He has been previously linked with managerial positions at Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United.
If Liverpool appoints Slot, they will need to negotiate a fee with Feyenoord as there is no release clause in his contract for this summer; it becomes active next year.
Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool’s captain, praised Slot’s coaching philosophy, indicating that it would align well with the club’s ethos.
Slot’s attacking style, his knack for player development, and his strong personality make him a frontrunner for Liverpool’s managerial role. He has expressed interest in managing in the Premier League, as evident from his previous links with Tottenham.
While Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim were also rumored candidates for the Liverpool job, Slot’s track record and managerial style have positioned him as a top choice for the Reds as they prepare for Klopp’s departure at the end of the season.
