The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled its timetable and schedule of activities for the forthcoming governorship primary election in Ondo State, Nigeria.
Signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaimon Argungu, the timetable outlines key dates leading up to the selection of the party’s candidate on April 25, 2024, ahead of the November 16, 2024, governorship election.
According to the released timetable, the sale of nominations, expression of interest, and delegate forms for contestants will commence on April 3 and conclude on April 10, 2024. The primary election itself is scheduled to take place on April 25, 2024.
Notably, the APC has set the price for the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at N10m and N40m respectively for Ondo State. Additionally, the party has introduced certain provisions regarding fee exemptions and discounts.
Female aspirants and persons living with disabilities are only required to pay for the Expression of Interest, while the Nomination Form is provided free of charge for them.
Moreover, youths aged between 25 to 40 years are eligible for a 50% discount on Nomination Forms upon purchasing Expression of Interest forms.
Contenders vying for the APC ticket in Ondo include Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office following the demise of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on December 27, 2023. Other aspirants include former Ondo deputy governor, Wale Akinterinwa, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim representing Ondo South.
Ondo, along with Edo, is among the eight states where governorship elections are held off-season due to ongoing litigations and court judgments. The other states affected by this circumstance are Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, and Osun
