The Anambra State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the brazen attack on the office of the Anambra State Vigilante Service in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday, saw yet-to-be-identified gunmen invading the premises and setting one of the buildings ablaze. Furthermore, they mercilessly set ablaze a vigilant operative who was inside one of the parked vehicles in front of the office, resulting in both the man and the vehicle being engulfed in flames.
According to the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered a comprehensive probe into the incident. Efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this heinous act.
“The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has assured the peace-loving people of the state that no stone will be left unturned in hunting down the gunmen who attacked and burnt the vigilante office in Amichi, Nnewi South LGA,” stated SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
The commissioner extended his condolences to the town and its people for the loss of the vigilant operative during the attack. He commended the vigilante groups across the state for their commitment to protecting the citizenry and assured them that the police would spare no effort in safeguarding them.
CP Adeoye has also directed police tactical teams and special forces across the state to be on high alert and respond promptly to any distress calls from vigilante groups in case of future attacks.
