Alcaraz Halts Sinner’s Streak With Commanding Italian Open Triumph.

Carlos Alcaraz delivered a masterful performance to end world number one Jannik Sinner’s 26-match winning streak, clinching the Italian Open title with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory in a thrilling final.

Sinner, competing in his first tournament since a three-month doping ban, aimed to become the first Italian men’s singles champion in Rome since Adriano Panatta in 1976. However, the 22-year-old Spaniard, a four-time Grand Slam winner, proved too strong, edging a tense first-set tie-break before dominating the second set to claim his maiden Rome title.

The opening set was a gripping affair, with Sinner holding two set points. But a wayward backhand return handed Alcaraz a lifeline, and the reigning French Open champion seized his chance, showcasing his flair to take the tie-break 7-5. In the second set, Alcaraz was untouchable, blending powerful groundstrokes with delicate touch, sealing the victory with a pinpoint cross-court volley at the net.

“I’m just really happy to get my first Rome title, hopefully it’s not going to be the last one,” Alcaraz said post-match. “I’m proud of myself, with the way I approached the match mentally. Tactically, I think I played pretty well from the first point until the last one.”

Alcaraz also paid tribute to his opponent, acknowledging Sinner’s remarkable return. “The first thing I want to say is that I’m just really happy to see Jannik back at this amazing level,” he added. “I’m sure it wasn’t easy for him coming back after three months and making the final is something insane, so I have to congratulate him.”

Sinner, whose winning streak began after Alcaraz defeated him in the China Open final last October, reflected on a challenging period. “There have been a few months that weren’t easy,” he admitted. “It’s been a great result just to be here in the final. I tried today, but that’s all I had. It was a good test.”

For Alcaraz, the victory marks another milestone in his glittering career, adding the Italian Open to his growing list of accolades. As he celebrated on the Foro Italico clay, the young Spaniard sent a clear message: his hunger for titles remains as fierce as ever.
