Aiyedatiwa’s Future At Risk, Resignation Tendencies Are High, Ondo State Crisis Worsens

The Ondo State House of Assembly has issued a warning against violating the resolutions reached during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders to address the political crisis in the state.

The House, in its first plenary session since the meeting, disclosed that part of the resolutions involved the deputy governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, writing an undated resignation letter to be submitted to the President.

During the plenary session, Speaker Olamide Oladiji revealed that the President appointed him, the Secretary of the Ondo State Government, Mrs. Oladunni Odu, and the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ade Adetimehin, to monitor compliance with the resolutions.

The Speaker warned all stakeholders against violating the resolutions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and adhering to the status quo.

The resolutions include the termination of all impeachment proceedings, withdrawal of all court cases, no dissolution of the State Executive Council, submission of an undated resignation letter by the deputy governor, the preservation of party leadership and structures, the continuation of the House of Assembly leadership, and the deputy governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, performing the functions of the office.

The Speaker reiterated that the lawmakers acted within the mandate given to them by their constituents. Meanwhile, 51 members of the Interim Caretaker Committee for the 18 local government areas of the state were approved during the plenary session.

The heavy presence of security operatives was noted around the Assembly complex during the session.

Efforts to reach the deputy governor for comment were unsuccessful by the newsmen  at the time of reporting, but a political associate indicated that Aiyedatiwa was displeased with the Assembly’s decision, as it deviated from the resolution reached at the previous meeting with President Tinubu.

The associate suggested that Aiyedatiwa was waiting for the House to declare him acting governor before returning to the state.
