The 13th African Games concluded in Ghana, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praising Nigeria’s athletes for their remarkable performance.
Team Nigeria secured second place on the medals table with 47 gold, 33 silver, and 41 bronze medals. A total of 121 medals overall.
President Tinubu, along with millions of sports enthusiasts, lauded the athletes’ winning spirit and congratulated them on their achievements at the continental competition.
Egypt claimed the top spot with 101 gold, 46 silver, and 42 bronze medals, while South Africa in third place. Hosts Ghana secured sixth place in the overall standings.
In a statement by Sports Development Minister Senator John Owan Enoh, President Tinubu expressed pride in the athletes and commended them for showcasing Nigeria’s strength, resilience, and excellence on the international stage.
Senator Enoh also emphasized the need for sustained investment in sports development and preparation to improve Nigeria’s performance and competitiveness in future events.
He thanked the athletes for their dedication and emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and support of Nigerian sportsmen and women.
