Veteran 400m runner Okon-George finally defeated at the on going national trials for the African Games in Asaba. As AFN welcome new champion Esther Joseph.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria on going national trials for the All African Games ended yesterday in Asaba, with a very huge shock coming from the 400m women category.
Esther Elo Joseph, produced a remarkable performance in what was an exciting race at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba.
She finished at 52.ooseconds, a personal best to clinch the title.
Expectedly, the spectators rose to greet the new kid on the block.
Favourite and regular runner, Okon-George surprisingly finished a distant sixth, returning in a time of 56. 06 seconds, while Esther Okon came second witt 52.93secs.
The third place was nicked by Uduak Udosoh who finished in 54.59secs.
Speaking to the media after the race, Okon-George was left in shock and couldn’t believe it, she said: “It’s one of my worst days on the track”
On the other hand, Esther Joseph who claimed the top spot was delighted even though not surprised that she won, in her words she said: “It was a good race for me, I came well prepared and I am not surprised by my own performance.
“From here, I want to keep improving and my target is to run under 49 seconds within a short period. I am working hard to achieve that by God’s grace” Esther Concluded
