Africa’s prestigious competition; the CAF nations Cup 2025 edition may yet be postponed according to report.
The 2025 African Cup of Nations is facing a postponement due to changes in the format of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The governing body of world football FIFA has expanded the participating clubs from 8 to 32, leading to a rescheduling conflict.
Originally slated to kick off in the summer of 2025, the AFCON now overlaps with the revamped Club World Cup schedule. However, the President of the Federation of Royal Morocco Football, Fouzi Lekja, has asserted that the biennial tournament will maintain its planned dates.
This decision comes after the Executive Committee of the African football governing body convened last Friday. Among their resolutions is the proposal to postpone the AFCON to the winter of 2026 to avoid clashes with other major international football events.
Notably, 2026 will also see the FIFA World Cup taking place, with Canada, Mexico, and the United States serving as co-hosts for the prestigious tournament.
