Administrator Samantha Power of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) convened a crucial meeting with humanitarian partner organizations to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
The meeting, held on July 17, 2024, underscored the challenges posed by ongoing conflict and obstruction of aid by Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces.
Acting Spokesperson Shejal Pulivarti highlighted Administrator Power’s recognition of the heroic efforts of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in Sudan despite the difficult circumstances. The discussions focused on the dire humanitarian conditions affecting millions at risk of famine, emphasizing the urgent need for unhindered cross-border and cross-line access to deliver essential aid.
Administrator Power reiterated the United States’ commitment to diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in Sudan and expanding humanitarian access. She emphasized that the U.S. will continue to support its humanitarian partners steadfastly in addressing the needs of the Sudanese people.
The meeting comes at a critical juncture as international concerns mount over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan, where conflict has displaced communities and disrupted livelihoods, exacerbating food insecurity and health crises.
