AAUA Staff Member Abducted In Ondo State.
Gunmen kidnapped Mr Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), from his home in Supare-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday evening. The incident occurred shortly after Mr Eleyinmi, who serves as the Faculty Officer in the Faculty of Education and is a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), returned from work.
According to a source from the university, who requested anonymity, the abduction took place around 7:00 p.m. along the Akungba-Supare road. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen stormed the premises, firing shots into the air to scare off onlookers before abducting Mr Eleyinmi. The university community has been left in shock, with colleagues and students expressing concern over the rising insecurity in the area.
A senior academic at AAUA circulated a Save-Our-Soul message, highlighting the urgency of the situation and calling for swift action to secure Mr Eleyinmi’s release. Authorities, including the Ondo State Police Command, have been informed, and investigations are underway to locate the abducted staff member and apprehend the perpetrators.
The university’s management has yet to release an official statement, but the incident has sparked renewed calls for improved security measures for staff and students in Akungba-Akoko and surrounding areas. The community remains on edge as they await further updates on Mr Eleyinmi’s safety.
