Each player will receive $100,000, a new flat in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate, and the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), in recognition of their outstanding achievement. The team’s coaches have also been awarded $50,000 each for their pivotal role in guiding the squad to success.
The announcement was made during a warm reception at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, 4 August 2025, hosted by Vice President Kashim Shettima on behalf of President Tinubu, with First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu in attendance. D’Tigress secured their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title with a commanding 78–64 win over Mali in the final held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, marking Nigeria’s seventh overall title in the tournament. This victory extended their remarkable unbeaten streak to 29 games since 2015, reinforcing their dominance in African women’s basketball.
President Tinubu praised the team for their resilience and dedication, noting that their success has inspired millions across Nigeria, particularly young girls with aspirations in sport. “You have ignited the nation’s hope and reminded us of the strength of the Nigerian spirit,” he said, as quoted during the ceremony. The rewards mirror those bestowed upon the Super Falcons last week for their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, reflecting the administration’s commitment to celebrating excellence in women’s sports.
