PDP Sets November 2025 For National Convention In Ibadan.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, announcing that its elective national convention will take place on 15-16 November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The decision, revealed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, follows extensive deliberations aimed at ensuring a smooth leadership transition within the party.

The convention, originally scheduled for August 2025 in Kano, has been rescheduled and relocated to Ibadan to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC) to steer the PDP’s affairs. Ologunagba, addressing journalists at the party’s national secretariat, confirmed that the NEC has approved the timetable and activities for the convention, alongside the membership composition of both the National Convention Committee and the National Convention Zoning Committee to ensure a transparent and credible process.

The NEC expressed satisfaction with the resolution of internal disputes, highlighting the party’s commitment to unity and democratic principles. The committee also directed the National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the convention’s details, in line with the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC’s guidelines for political parties.

In addition, the PDP has scheduled another NEC meeting for 25 August 2025 to finalise preparations for the convention. The party also resolved to pursue legal action to reclaim seats of National and State Assembly members who defected from the PDP to other parties, reinforcing its determination to maintain discipline and loyalty.

The PDP reiterated its position as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, vowing to remain united and focused in its efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Political observers see the upcoming convention as a critical step for the PDP to consolidate its strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the party aiming to project strength and cohesion.
