Abure’s Faction Gives Peter Obi 48-Hour Ultimatum To Resign From Labour Party Amid Coalition Controversy

Abure’s Faction Gives Peter Obi 48-Hour Ultimatum To Resign From Labour Party Amid Coalition Controversy.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has been issued a stark 48-hour ultimatum to resign from the party following allegations of his involvement in a new political coalition. The demand, delivered by Labour Party spokesperson Obiora Ifoh, comes amid growing tensions within the party as speculation mounts about Obi’s political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a fiery statement, Ifoh distanced the Labour Party from the emerging coalition, branding its members as “power mongers” and “recycled politicians” who lack genuine commitment to Nigeria’s progress. He accused Obi of orchestrating clandestine meetings with key party figures in an attempt to lure them into defecting to the new alliance. According to Ifoh, many party members rebuffed Obi’s overtures, remaining steadfast in their loyalty to the Labour Party’s vision.

Ifoh’s statement was unequivocal: “Any member of the Labour Party participating in this coalition must formally resign within 48 hours.” He emphasised the party’s role as the authentic platform for youth-driven change in Nigeria, urging members to stand firm and reject what he described as opportunistic political manoeuvring.

Obi, a prominent figure whose 2023 campaign galvanised widespread support, particularly among young Nigerians, has yet to respond to the allegations or the ultimatum. His silence has only intensified speculation about his next move, with political observers questioning whether this signals the start of a broader realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape or a deepening rift within the opposition.

The controversy has sparked debate about the Labour Party’s cohesion and its ability to maintain its position as a formidable force against Nigeria’s ruling parties. As the 48-hour deadline looms, all eyes are on Obi and whether his actions will reshape the opposition or fracture its base at a critical juncture.
