Plateau State Pilgrim Passes Away In Makkah Due To Diabetic Complications.

A tragic loss has struck the Plateau State contingent during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, as Hajiya Jamila Muhammad has sadly passed away in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The news was confirmed by Mr Daiyabu Dauda, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, in a statement released to journalists in Jos on Tuesday, 3 June 2025.

According to the statement, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad succumbed to complications arising from diabetes on Monday, 2 June, whilst receiving treatment at King Abdul’aziz Hospital in Makkah. “From God we are, and to Him we shall return. With heavy hearts and total submission to the will of Allah, Plateau State has lost one of her female pilgrims, Hajiya Jamila Muhammad,” the statement read. Mr Dauda explained that upon learning of her condition, he promptly directed the medical team to ensure she received proper care, in line with the directives of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to prioritise the health and wellbeing of all pilgrims from the state.

Despite the medical team’s efforts, doctors at the hospital confirmed that diabetic complications led to her untimely passing. Following Islamic rites, funeral prayers were held at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, attended by the Amirul Hajj, officials from the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, and relatives of the deceased. Hajiya Jamila was subsequently laid to rest in Makkah, in accordance with tradition.

Mr Dauda expressed profound sorrow over the loss, extending heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Plateau State, as well as the immediate family, friends, and relatives of the deceased. He urged them to find solace in their faith, quoting the Quran: “And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him—his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah” (Quran 4:100).

The passing of Hajiya Jamila Muhammad marks a sombre moment for the Plateau State pilgrimage delegation, highlighting the health challenges some pilgrims face during the physically and spiritually demanding journey of Hajj. The Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board remains committed to supporting its pilgrims and ensuring their wellbeing throughout the 2025 Hajj exercise.
