TCN Schedules Maintenance At Kukwaba Substation, Warns Of Temporary Power Disruption In FCT.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that its maintenance team will carry out essential routine maintenance on the 60 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) TR2 transformer at the Kukwaba Transmission Substation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The exercise is scheduled for Saturday, 17 May 2025, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
In a statement released on Saturday via the company’s verified X handle, TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, explained that the preventive maintenance is necessary to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the substation. “TCN wishes to inform the public that its maintenance team will be conducting routine preventive maintenance on the 60MVA TR2 at Kukwaba Transmission Substation on Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm,” Mbah said.
As a result of the maintenance, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to draw power from the transformer during the seven-hour period. This will lead to a temporary power outage affecting several areas, including Wuye, Utako, parts of Jabi, Idu Railway Station, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters, the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Baze University, Nile University, Coca-Cola, Citec, Idu Industrial Area, Kuchigoro, and Karomajiji.
TCN assured residents and businesses that power supply will be fully restored immediately upon completion of the maintenance work. The company expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and urged affected customers to bear with the temporary disruption.
This maintenance follows other recent efforts by TCN to bolster Nigeria’s power infrastructure, including the successful restoration of collapsed towers along the Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line. The company remains committed to improving the stability of the national grid.
