Lagos Governor Approves New Apapa Business Office To Boost Infrastructure And Commerce.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has authorised the creation of the Apapa Central Business Office to address infrastructure challenges and cultivate a thriving business environment in Lagos State, according to the Special Adviser on Central Business Districts (CBD), Bola Olumegbon-Lawal.

Speaking on Thursday at the ongoing ministerial press briefing marking the second anniversary of Sanwo-Olu’s second term, Olumegbon-Lawal praised the governor’s transformative leadership, which has significantly enhanced Lagos’s infrastructure and economic landscape. She outlined the Lagos CBD’s efforts to foster a business-friendly atmosphere through effective traffic management, improved environmental sanitation, and the reduction of illegal street trading.

The new Apapa office will focus on maintaining infrastructure and ensuring a conducive commercial hub, aligning with the CBD’s broader mission to enhance the vibrancy of Lagos’s business districts, including Lagos Island and Ikeja. Olumegbon-Lawal highlighted ongoing initiatives, such as the removal of illegal structures and the enforcement of a “No Street Trading” policy, to promote orderly commerce.

Collaboration with agencies like the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has been instrumental in ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, she noted. Regular engagement with transport unions and market leaders has also fostered cooperation, with the CBD committed to maintaining open dialogue with stakeholders.

Olumegbon-Lawal urged Lagosians to support government efforts by adhering to traffic and environmental regulations, emphasising the importance of collective responsibility in sustaining the state’s commercial hubs. “The government remains dedicated to ensuring safety and order across our business districts,” she said.

The announcement follows recent measures to uphold standards within the CBD, including the suspension and dismissal of officers for misconduct, as part of Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to accountability.

As Lagos continues to solidify its position as a leading economic hub, the establishment of the Apapa Central Business Office signals a proactive step towards sustainable urban development and commercial growth.
