JUST-IN: Rivers State Administrator Approves Recruitment Of 10,000 People Into Civil Service

Rivers State Administrator Approves Recruitment Of 10,000 People Into Civil Service.

Rivers State Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has approved the recruitment of 10,000 eligible graduates and non-graduates into the state’s civil service. The announcement, made earlier today, has been hailed as a significant step towards addressing unemployment and empowering the youth of the region.

The decision comes amidst ongoing efforts by the Rivers State government to revitalise its workforce and stimulate economic growth. Vice Admiral Ibas, a highly respected figure who assumed the role of Sole Administrator following a period of political transition in the state, underscored the importance of this initiative in providing opportunities for both skilled and unskilled individuals. “This recruitment drive is about building a stronger, more inclusive Rivers State,” he said in a statement released from the Government House in Port Harcourt. “We are committed to ensuring that our young people, regardless of their educational background, have a chance to contribute to the development of our state.”

The recruitment process, which is expected to commence shortly, will be open to a wide range of applicants. Graduates with degrees from recognised institutions and non-graduates with demonstrable skills or a willingness to serve will be eligible to apply. While specific details about the application process and available positions are yet to be fully disclosed, sources within the Rivers State Civil Service Commission indicate that roles will span various sectors, including administration, healthcare, education, and infrastructure support.

This initiative revives a previous plan championed by former Governor Nyesom Wike, who, during his tenure, approved the employment of 10,000 youths into the civil service in 2023. That programme saw thousands of applications before it was paused amid political shifts in the state. The reinstatement and approval by Vice Admiral Ibas signal a renewed commitment to fulfilling that promise, albeit under new leadership.

The Rivers State Civil Service Commission is expected to release official guidelines soon, including eligibility criteria and application deadlines. Historically, such recruitment drives have required applicants to provide valid identification—such as a National Identification Number, voter’s card, or international passport—along with relevant educational certificates where applicable. Online applications are likely to be facilitated through the commission’s dedicated portal, as was the case in previous exercises.

Economic analysts suggest that this influx of 10,000 new civil servants could have a ripple effect on the state’s economy, boosting local spending power and reducing unemployment rates, which have remained a challenge across Nigeria. The move also aligns with broader national efforts to engage the country’s youth population, a demographic that continues to grow rapidly.

As Rivers State prepares to roll out this ambitious plan, all eyes will be on the implementation process. For now, the announcement stands as a beacon of hope for thousands of residents, offering a chance to secure stable employment and contribute to the state’s future.

Further updates, including the official launch date and application portal details, are expected to be announced in the coming days. Job seekers are advised to stay tuned to official government channels for the latest information.
