Governor Adeleke Relaxes Curfew As Peace Returns To Osun Communities.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced the relaxation of the curfew imposed on the warring communities of Ilobu, Ifon, and Erin-Osun, following encouraging security reports and signs of a sustained ceasefire.

The affected communities, located in Irepodun and Ifon-Orolu Local Government Areas, had previously been under a 17-hour curfew due to protracted communal clashes. However, with peace gradually taking root, the curfew has now been reduced to 12 hours — running from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily — effective from Tuesday.

The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who emphasised the government’s commitment to restoring harmony in the region.

Governor Adeleke, in the statement, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting, “Now that peace is gaining the centre stage on a daily basis, it gladdens my heart as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State to announce the relaxation of the curfew… This is good and heartwarming.”

The governor further commended the traditional rulers and residents of the three communities for their efforts in fostering peace, urging them to maintain the positive momentum. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring that young students are not disrupted in their academic pursuits, especially those preparing for vital examinations such as WAEC, NECO, and JAMB.

In line with this, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed that security forces — including the Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) — will maintain 24-hour surveillance in the region to safeguard the fragile peace.

He concluded with a strong warning: “Anybody, group or community caught or found wanting in fomenting or aiding the crisis in any way will be made to face the music in line with the dictates of Nigerian law.”

This measured but hopeful move marks a significant step towards lasting peace and stability in Osun State, with the government’s commitment to safety, education, and community dialogue taking centre stage.
