Lagos Leads In National Identity Registration As NIN Enrolment Reaches 117 Million.
The National Identity Management Commission has announced that over 117 million Nigerians have been assigned the National Identity Number as of 28 February 2025, with Lagos State recording the highest number of registrants.
According to the latest enrolment statistics, Lagos tops the list with over 12.6 million registrations, followed by Kano State with 10.2 million. Kaduna ranked third with 6.9 million registrations, while Ogun and Oyo recorded 4.9 million and 4.5 million, respectively.
The report further revealed a gender distribution of 56.5 percent male, representing 66,281,803 individuals, and 43.5 percent female, amounting to 51,079,521 registrations across the country.
Among the states with the lowest enrolment figures, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Ekiti ranked at the bottom. Other states with low registration numbers include Cross River, Taraba, Yobe, Kogi, Enugu, Kwara, and Imo.
Meanwhile, Katsina, the Federal Capital Territory, Rivers, Delta, and Bauchi made the top ten list, with each state recording over three million registrations.
The commission noted that the registration figures showed an almost equal distribution across northern and southern regions of the country, highlighting steady progress in the nationwide identity enrolment drive.
The National Identity Number remains a key requirement for accessing various government services and is integral to Nigeria’s digital identity and security framework.
