Nigeria Faces Senegal In Adjusted CHAN 2025 Group Stage.

The 8th edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) has seen its schedule shifted to August 2025, but the excitement remains undimmed as the group stages were drawn at the illustrious Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi on Wednesday evening.

In what promises to be a thrilling Group D, Nigeria, who clinched silver in 2018, will lock horns with Senegal, Sudan, and the Republic of Congo. This formidable quartet will vie for supremacy and a spot in the knockout stages in a tournament that continues to celebrate African football talent.

The draw also highlighted the group compositions for the co-host nations. Kenya, one of the joint-hosts alongside Tanzania and Uganda, leads Group A, which includes powerhouses Morocco, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia. The opening match of the tournament will be a blockbuster as Kenya faces off against the 2018 champions, Morocco, setting the stage for what is expected to be a fiercely competitive group.

Tanzania, heading Group B, will have their hands full with Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and an intriguing Central African Republic side that recently upset Cameroon. This group promises some of the most unpredictable matches as teams battle for the top two positions to advance.

In Group C, Uganda will host a diverse set of challenges with Niger Republic, Guinea, and two yet-to-be-determined wild card teams by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This group’s dynamics will be particularly fascinating, with the wild card entries potentially adding an element of surprise.

Here’s how the groups shape up:

GROUP A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia

GROUP B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic

GROUP C: Uganda, Niger Republic, Guinea, Wild Card 2, Wild Card 1

GROUP D: Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, Sudan, Nigeria

The rescheduling to August 2025 provides extra time for preparation, ensuring that fans across Africa and beyond can look forward to a tournament that not only showcases the continent’s footballing prowess but also its vibrant cultural tapestry. As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on how these nations perform, with the opening matches setting the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable championship.
