In a recent episode of The Morning Hustle podcast, Nigerian music sensation Davido shared his insights on the growing trend of Nigerians giving birth to their children abroad.
According to Davido, this phenomenon is driven by a desire for better opportunities, healthcare, education, and citizenship for their children.
Davido likened giving birth abroad to buying an insurance policy, ensuring that one’s child has access to a wider range of benefits and opportunities. He cited the ease of obtaining foreign citizenship, access to quality medical care, and better educational prospects as key motivators for Nigerians seeking childbirth abroad.
” Giving birth abroad is a common trend among Nigerians. Apart from having better [medical] facilities overseas, people want to have their kids abroad to save them the hassle of applying for visas,” Davido explained.
This trend is particularly prevalent among Nigeria’s upper and middle-class citizens, who have the means to travel abroad for childbirth. Davido’s comments shed light on the underlying reasons driving this phenomenon, highlighting the desire for better opportunities and a more secure future for their children.
