Edo Police Arrest Suspected Cult Members, Recover Weapons.
The Edo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected members of the Aiye cult group. Commissioner of Police Umoru Ozigi disclosed the details to journalists in Benin City, reporting that the arrests occurred along the Benin/Auchi bypass in the Iguomo community, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area.
According to Ozigi, operatives from the anti-kidnapping unit apprehended the suspects during a routine stop-and-search operation. The officers intercepted a motorcycle carrying two passengers, who initially attempted to flee upon seeing the police. However, they were swiftly pursued and taken into custody.
The suspects, identified as Nosakhare Umuwagbe, 34, and Frank Abumere, 35, were later searched, leading to the discovery of two pump-action guns and twelve live cartridges at their residences. Ozigi confirmed that both suspects admitted their involvement with the Aiye cult group.
The commissioner stated that the suspects would face charges in court once investigations are completed.
