Jonathan Leads AU Observation Mission As Botswana Holds Peaceful Elections.

The African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), led by former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, is currently monitoring Botswana’s general elections. Jonathan, along with other AU observers, is overseeing polling stations in Gaborone to ensure a fair and transparent process.

In a statement shared on social media, Jonathan expressed hope for a peaceful electoral process, stating, “Out early on Election Day in Botswana, we, as members of the African Union Election Observation Mission, visited some polling stations in Gaborone, the nation’s capital city.”

This election is significant as it marks Botswana’s 13th since its independence in 1965, a testament to its robust democratic foundations. Jonathan extended his well-wishes to the citizens, saying, “We wish Batswana a successful outing as they seek to further consolidate the nation’s vibrant democracy.”

The AUEOM team will continue its monitoring throughout the day, ensuring adherence to international electoral standards. Their presence underscores the AU’s commitment to promoting transparency and democratic integrity across Africa.
