GoTV Working On Restoring Service After Technical Glitch, Reassures Subscribers.
GoTV subscribers in Nigeria, particularly football enthusiasts, were briefly left without access to key channels on Tuesday night due to a sudden disruption in service. The outage, which affected multiple sports channels during the much-anticipated UEFA Champions League matches, sparked frustration among fans. However, GoTV has since reassured its customers that the issue is being resolved and services will return to normal shortly.
The disruption, which affected sports stations like SS Blitz Africa, SS Football Africa, and ESPN, left football fans unable to follow their favourite teams during one of Europe’s most prestigious tournaments. Other popular channels, including Africa Magic Epic, CNN International, and TVC News Nigeria, were also impacted by the outage.
The technical hiccup, which originated from a severe power failure on the Intelsat 33e satellite—servicing Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia—caused widespread interruptions for satellite providers, including MultiChoice, the parent company of GoTV.
While subscribers voiced their concerns and demanded compensation, many were also quick to express understanding once the cause of the issue was revealed. Sanjo, a viewing centre operator, shared his initial reaction: “I thought it was an antenna problem, but once I learned it was a satellite issue, I realised it was beyond GoTV’s control. These things happen, and I’m just hoping it’s fixed before the next round of matches.”
Similarly, Adebola Oluwatosin, a Real Madrid fan who had missed his team’s match against Borussia Dortmund, called for better communication but acknowledged that the outage was an unexpected challenge for both GoTV and its users. “I was frustrated at first, but once I knew the source of the problem, I realised GoTV wasn’t entirely to blame. I’d appreciate some form of compensation, but I’m glad they’re working on fixing it.”
In response, MultiChoice’s spokesperson, Caroline Oghuma, reassured subscribers that the team was working diligently to resolve the issue: “We are currently addressing a technical issue with our satellite provider, Intelsat. We understand the frustration this has caused and are committed to restoring all channels as quickly as possible.”
As GoTV works to restore its services, many subscribers are hopeful that the temporary disruption will soon be a thing of the past, with fans ready to catch the next round of exciting sports action.
