CAF Plans To Introduce U-19 Champions League, Following UEFA’s Example.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is planning to launch its own U-19 Champions League, mirroring UEFA’s youth competition structure. This move aims to further develop young football talent across the continent.
According to reports from CAF’s headquarters in Cairo, the organisation’s competition department is working towards establishing the tournament, which will be the first of its kind for African clubs at the youth level. While CAF currently hosts competitions for age-grade national teams, there is no existing tournament for youth club sides.
Although the concept is still in its early stages, with specific details on the structure and club admission process yet to be finalised, the ambition is clear. The introduction of this competition will provide a platform for young African players to showcase their skills at the continental level, much like UEFA’s U-19 Champions League in Europe.
CAF is expected to ratify the tournament structure and other organisational aspects in the near future as it continues to explore avenues for nurturing the next generation of football talent in Africa.
