Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has confirmed his contact with controversial social media personality Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, regarding the legal issues Bobrisky faced earlier this year.
However, Falz firmly denied any involvement in assisting Bobrisky financially or influencing his legal case.
Falz’s clarification came on Wednesday after his legal team, Falana & Falana Chambers, issued a letter to Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, demanding the retraction of defamatory statements made against Falz.
The statements, posted on social media, suggested that Falz conspired with Bobrisky to “pervert the course of justice” by providing financial assistance to secure a favorable outcome for Bobrisky.
In the letter dated September 26, 2024, Falz’s lawyer, Taiwo E. Olawanle, explained that while Bobrisky did reach out to Falz, he had asked for N3 million to pay officials for a VIP section at the correctional facility.
Falz, however, declined to offer financial help and advised Bobrisky not to pay any officials.
The letter read, “Our client never at any point initiated a conversation with Mr. Idris Okuneye. Mr. Okuneye was the one who contacted our client on May 4, 2024, asking for advice due to the charges against him.
Instead of seeking legal counsel, he requested financial assistance of N3,000,000 to pay officials for a VIP section at the correctional center, which our client refused.”
Falz’s legal team also refuted the social media post suggesting that Falz was involved in a homosexual affair or sought a presidential pardon for Bobrisky.
The letter demanded an immediate retraction and public apology across all platforms where the allegations were shared, warning that failure to comply within 24 hours would result in legal action and claims for damages to Falz’s reputation.
Meanwhile, in a related development, a viral video shared by VeryDarkMan revealed that Bobrisky allegedly accused unnamed EFCC officers of collecting N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
Bobrisky has since denied the bribery allegations, and EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has ordered an investigation into the matter.
