Liverpool Complete Signing of Juventus Winger Federico Chiesa.
Liverpool have secured the signing of Italian winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus for an initial fee of £10 million, with an additional £2.5 million in performance-based add-ons. Chiesa, 26, has penned a four-year contract, becoming Arne Slot’s first signing as Liverpool manager.
Chiesa, who was instrumental in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, particularly in the final where they defeated England on penalties at Wembley, expressed his excitement about joining the Reds. “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans,” Chiesa told the club’s website. “So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”
The forward made a significant impact during his initial years at Juventus, earning a place in Serie A’s Team of the Year. However, his form dipped after a serious knee injury in January 2022 that required surgery. Despite his injury struggles, Chiesa managed to score 32 goals in 131 appearances for Juventus, including 10 in 37 matches last season.
New Juventus manager Thiago Motta omitted Chiesa from his first two matchday squads this season, likely prompting the move. With his contract set to expire next summer, the transfer to Liverpool comes at a pivotal time in Chiesa’s career as he looks to revive his form and make a significant impact at Anfield.
