The Commissioner for Youth Development in Anambra State, Patrick Aghamba, and his wife have reportedly been kidnapped while en route to Abuja.
The incident, which occurred on Friday at an undisclosed location in Edo State, also allegedly resulted in the death of Aghamba’s aide, identified as ABK Offiah.
According to sources, the commissioner and his wife were traveling to Abuja to attend the wedding of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s daughter, Adaora, scheduled for Saturday. Details of the abduction remain unclear, and the state government has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
A high-ranking government official confirmed the incident via telephone, stating, “Yes, we are aware the incident happened. The state government will react to the development soon.” The source further noted that no contact has been made with the kidnappers, and the situation remains uncertain until more information is available.
When asked why the commissioner did not travel by air, the source could not provide additional details.
The Anambra State Police Command has escalated the matter to other state commands for further investigation, as the incident occurred outside Anambra State’s jurisdiction, according to police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
