On Monday at the EXCO Chambers in the Government House, Benin City, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki officially sworn in Joseph Eboigbe as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Before his new role, Eboigbe served as the Governor’s Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning and later as Commissioner for Finance.
His appointment follows the resignation of Osarodion Ogie, who stepped down to pursue his political ambition as the deputy governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming September 21 gubernatorial election.
In his remarks, Governor Obaseki praised Eboigbe’s professional expertise, describing him as an “astute, diligent, and detailed” individual who has consistently delivered in previous assignments. Obaseki emphasized that Eboigbe’s experience and familiarity with the administration would be crucial in ensuring a smooth transition to the next government.
“The new SSG is an old hand. He has been part of this administration, serving as a former Special Adviser on Budget and Economic Planning and later as Commissioner for Finance. Currently, he is the chairman of the transition committee; we couldn’t find a better person than him. He was there in the beginning and will help us finish strong,” Obaseki stated.
In his acceptance speech, Eboigbe expressed gratitude to the Governor for the trust placed in him and pledged to exceed expectations.
“This is a very huge assignment, especially a few months to round up this administration. I am committed to excellence sir, and promise to discharge my responsibilities to my utmost ability and exceed all expectations set for me,” Eboigbe said.
