Kylian Mbappe Invests in French Ligue 2 Club Caen.
In a significant development, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe has completed a takeover of Ligue 2 side Caen through his investment company, Interconnected Ventures. The acquisition, managed via Coalition Capital, marks a substantial personal investment of around €15 million (£12.6 million) by the French international.
Coalition Capital, now the majority shareholder, replaces the previous American investment fund, Oaktree. Despite the takeover, Pierre-Antoine Capton, the current president of Caen’s supervisory board, retains a minority stake in the club.
Capton expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, stating, “It is an incredible opportunity for Stade Malherbe Caen to be able to count on Coalition Capital for its development. Its values, commitments, and extraordinary vision of sport are unique assets for this project.”
Caen, who finished sixth in Ligue 2 last season, are set to kick off their new campaign on 17 August against Paris FC. The takeover comes just a day before Mbappe is expected to make his La Liga debut for Real Madrid against Real Mallorca, following his move from PSG this summer.
Relegated from Ligue 1 in 2019, Caen aims to leverage this investment for strategic development and bolster its ambition to remain a notable entity in French football. The club’s statement underscored the significance of this transaction, calling it a “significant step in the club’s strategic development” and reinforcing its historical status within French football.
