Former President Barack Obama has condemned the shooting incident at Republican candidate Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
According to GOVIMA reports, two people were killed when gunshots were fired during the rally. Trump, who was injured, was rushed off the stage by armed security.
In a statement on his X handle on Sunday, Obama denounced the act of political violence, emphasising that it has no place in American democracy. He expressed relief that Trump was not seriously hurt and called on Americans to recommit to civility and respect in politics.
“Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt,” Obama wrote. “Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.”
The former president urged Americans to use this incident as a reminder to promote peaceful political discourse.
