Juventus and Aston Villa Agree on Douglas Luiz Transfer Deal
(Govima Sports Report).
Juventus have announced an agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of 23-year-old midfielder Douglas Luiz. As part of the deal, Juventus’ Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior will move to Villa Park.
Juventus will pay around 50 million euros (£42.3 million) for Luiz, while Aston Villa will receive 22 million euros (£18.5 million) for Barrenechea and Iling-Junior, with an additional 3 million euros (£2.5 million) in bonuses. Luiz is set to undergo a medical examination while on a training camp with Brazil next week, according to a statement from Juventus.
The transfer initially included Weston McKennie, but negotiations fell through due to issues surrounding the United States international’s wages.
Argentine midfielder Barrenechea, who was relegated from Serie A last season while on loan at Frosinone, has made five appearances for Juventus. England Under-21 international Iling-Junior, who came through Chelsea’s academy, played 27 times for Juventus last season.
In addition, Aston Villa Women’s and Switzerland striker Alisha Lehmann will also move to Juventus.
Aston Villa are expected to offload more players this summer to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), having reported a loss of £119 million in their accounts up to 31 May 2023. The club has already sold midfielder Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for a reported £9 million, and Chelsea are close to signing attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman for a reported £19 million.
Despite the club’s qualification for the Champions League after finishing fourth last season, Villa are compelled to adhere to PSR regulations. These rules, which Villa initially opposed, were introduced in the 2015-16 season and permit Premier League clubs to incur losses of up to £105 million over a three-year period.
