Euro 2024: Jamal Musiala’s Brilliance Continues As Germany Pick Up Round 16 Ticket Against Hungary

Jamal Musiala Shines as Germany Secures Victory Over Hungary to Reach Knockout Stages.

Jamal Musiala scored again as Germany continued their winning start to Euro 2024 with a victory over Hungary, becoming the first team to advance to the knockout stages.

The Bayern Munich forward impressed throughout the match, netting midway through the first half and nearly scoring a second with a powerful effort that went just inches wide. Musiala was later given a standing ovation when he was substituted late in the second half.

Hungary expressed frustration with his opener, claiming a foul from Ilkay Gundogan on defender Willi Orban before the Barcelona midfielder set up Musiala to fire into the roof of the net. However, a video assistant referee (VAR) check confirmed the on-field decision, and Musiala celebrated with his teammates in front of the Hungarian supporters.

Hungary thought they had equalised on the stroke of half-time, but Roland Sallai’s rebound header was ruled out for offside. Instead, Germany extended their lead in the second half when former Manchester City player Gundogan was left unmarked and comfortably slotted past goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

After their dominant 5-1 win over Scotland, Germany faced a tougher challenge here, with Hungary threatening on several occasions and defending stubbornly. Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai showcased his quality on set-pieces, forcing a crucial save from Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer with a terrific curling effort.

Despite Hungary’s efforts, Germany’s performance was encouraging, displaying creativity and control to secure six points from their opening two games. Their place in the last 16 is confirmed, and a victory over Switzerland in Frankfurt on Sunday would see them finish as Group A winners.

The result is a significant blow for Hungary, who now find themselves on the brink of elimination. Following their opening defeat by Switzerland, Hungary needed a result to keep their hopes of progressing alive. However, the loss means they must now defeat Scotland in their final group game to have any chance of advancing.

Hungary’s manager, Marco Rossi, expressed his frustration with the officiating, claiming the referee had double standards. “I’ve never complained in my career as a coach. I’ve never looked for excuses, but what the referee did tonight – I mean, come on,” Rossi said. “Germany would have won anyway because they were better than us, but the referee was the worst on the pitch.”

Germany’s fans, on the other hand, are optimistic. As supporters sense an opportunity for this talented squad to do well on home soil, this latest victory only adds to that. “The atmosphere is amazing,” said manager Julian Nagelsmann. “We want to win every game, and if we do that, we will be first in the group. I’m happy with the result. It was a tough game.”

In 21-year-old Musiala, Germany has one of Europe’s most outstanding talents, and the question on everyone’s minds is how far he can take them in this tournament.
