The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 29-year-old suspect, identified as Sodiq Ishola, for a vicious attack on a 65-year-old man at Pako Bus Stop in Iyana Ipaja.
The incident occurred on Monday evening around 8:30 pm.
According to the police, Ishola and an accomplice trailed the victim and his wife from Lagos Island to Iyana Ipaja on a motorcycle. In a shocking act of violence, Ishola used a hammer to inflict severe head injuries on the elderly man.
Fortunately, the timely intervention of officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol prevented further harm. The suspect was restrained and taken into custody.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for his serious injuries.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the assault was premeditated, as the suspects had followed the victim and his wife from Lagos Island.
The suspect, Sodiq Ishola, has been transferred to the RRS Headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, for further questioning and legal proceedings.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that they are actively investigating the incident and will bring the perpetrators to justice.
